Zatch Bell is a story about a boy named Kiyo finding his way into friendship and trusting others.
The story starts when Kiyo recieves a birthday present from his dad in England. This present is Zatch Bell, a mysterious boy who can shoot lighting from his mouth. As it goes, Zatch is a mamodo and is fighting in the battle that takes place to decide the new king of the mamodo world every one thousand years. But Zatch has lost his memory and cannot remember why he is in Kiyo's world, much less, why he can shoot lighting out of his mouth.
Zatch helps Kiyo to make new friends at school and all around, and Kiyo helps to solve the mystery of Zatch's orgin. Kiyo has also discovered that the reason so many mamodos have come from all over the world to fight Zatch is because he used to be a weak mamodo and they all think that he would be an easy target. Together they fight other mamodos and even help some of the mamodos they meet.
Kiyo and Zatch are off to a good start, but who will be the mamodo king?
